Who am I as an artist? To answer this simple question, I like creating something new and refreshing and inspiring people to do the same while creating something that makes me feel content. I’m currently a sophomore, pursuing a degree in the School of Visual Arts, majoring in 3D animation and VFX. Initially I wanted to work in 2D animation, which studying 3D helped me improve, especially when it comes to perspectives, so I found myself sticking around. Being in this major gives me the ability to explore new things, which could help me explore more opportunities and empower more creativity. Bringing my personal projects to life is my main goal in life once I have the job experience to learn how to cooperate with others in developing video games or creating my own TV series.

I continually explore visually vibrant colors in my digital work such as original characters and environments with a variety of different styles of linework. However, my main-style is cartoony like. Some of my artwork has mixed media elements to it such as putting 2D with 3D or photography elements. Most of the characters I created are non-human, such as anthropomorphic animals, robots, and aliens. The reason why I created these types of characters is because it’s more interesting to me and it’s easier for me to get a more creative vision when it comes to creating new characters. My work was inspired by a variety of things such as cartoons, movies, video games, internet animation, even music. For example, one of my favorite movies was Wall-E which inspired me to create robot characters. And that one Nintendo game called Nintendogs plus Cats which inspired me to create my first characters based on animals. Studying 3D and VFX while I am still doing 2D has given me a creative vision on what my future works would look like if I combined different things together to create a new unique style I had never thought of before. I could be adding a 2d drawing of a character in a 3d background, or a 3d model of a character in the photograph background with 2d props. It could be bizarre, but unique.

My strongest skills are in character animation and 3D modeling. However I find myself enjoying character animation the most because it’s fun for me to watch the character’s movements I had animated. It’s like bringing them to life. I believe my character models are good and have gotten better since my first robot model. However over time, I updated the models to fit more to my 2d drawings. I would like to improve a bit more on character rigging with more advanced controls through Autodesk Maya and lighting effects. After I got accepted to this School of Visual Arts, I learned a free 3d program called Blender and a student license, Maya before attending my first day at school so I have most of the knowledge to make school assignments easier. Blender is my preference over Maya because Blender has better features like grease pencil and has way more tutorials than Maya.

Being in the School of Visual Art has given me good experience so far. I learn new creative softwares I had never used before such as After Effects, Adobe Illustrator, and Nuke. I received constructive criticism from professors and peers to help improve my work about what’s working and what’s not working. And I had made friends along the way for us to help each other out on group projects and school assignments.
